About This Device
The Cradlepoint MB-MC400-5GB brings 5G to Cradlepoint's mobile router platforms through the MC400 modular modem system. Installed in an R1900 fitted with the RX30-MC managed accessory, or in an IBR1700, the module operates as an additional cellular radio managed by the host router in NetCloud.
For vehicle fleets, the module solves two problems. Deployments standardized on LTE gain a clean upgrade path: add the module and the router now negotiates 5G where available, improving throughput for body-camera offload, live video, and large file sync at the depot. Deployments that already have a working radio gain carrier diversity: with SIMs from two networks, the router fails over automatically when one carrier drops, which is the accepted design for ambulances, patrol vehicles, and transit buses.
The module measures roughly 2.9 inches deep and half an inch tall, connecting over the host's modular interface, and ships at about one pound. Because the radio layer is modular, the router chassis, vehicle wiring, and antenna runs all stay in place at the next technology transition—only the module changes. Activation requires a 4FF (nano) SIM and service from your chosen carrier, both sold separately. For the branch-router version of this modem, see BF-MC400-5GB; for E-series TAA requirements, TAA variants are available.
