About This Device
The Cradlepoint MB-RX30-MC extends the R1900 5G ruggedized router with a modular modem bay and an integrated Ethernet switch, packaged in the same compact, vehicle-grade form factor as the router itself. RX30-series accessories mount directly to the R1900, drawing power and management from the host so the combined stack behaves as a single device in NetCloud.
The modem bay is the headline feature. Fitted with a separately purchased MC400 modular modem—such as the MB-MC400-5GB—the R1900 gains a second cellular radio, allowing SIMs from two carriers to run simultaneously with automatic failover. That dual-carrier design is standard practice for ambulances, patrol vehicles, and transit fleets, where a single network's coverage gaps are unacceptable. The switched Ethernet ports handle the rest of the vehicle: cameras, mobile data terminals, printers, and telematics gateways connect locally without an external switch taking up space and a separate power feed.
Build quality follows the R1900 platform: ruggedized construction for vibration and temperature swings in vehicle environments, with RoHS, REACH, and WEEE environmental compliance and a limited lifetime warranty. Shipping weight is about 3.1 pounds. If your fleet needs PoE for cameras rather than a modem bay, the companion MB-RX30-POE accessory provides a four-port 802.3bt PoE switch instead. For TAA procurement, order the TAA-MB-RX30-MC variant.
