About This Device
High-band 5G delivers its headline speeds only with an outdoor radio, and Captive Modem mode is how Cradlepoint gets one onto an existing router without re-architecting the site. The 170900-011 is the North America outdoor high-band package built on the W4005-5GB - a 7.5 Gbps-class 5G modem - deployed as a captive accessory: the controlling router absorbs it as its own WAN interface, and Ericsson NetCloud Manager treats router and modem as a single entity. Ericsson pairs it with branch platforms such as the IBR1700. The result is mmWave-class service terminating on the router your policies, VPNs, and management already live on.
Captive Modem mode is the architectural trick: the outdoor unit stops being a second router and becomes an interface of the first, so operations see one device instead of two.
Mount the W4005 outdoors per its installation guide, connect it to the controlling router, and enable Captive Modem mode - NetCloud then manages the pair as a single device. Verify high-band service and failover behavior before closing the change window.
Cloud Care Networks stocks the Cradlepoint 170900-011 alongside the gateways and routers it supports, so IT and field-service teams can consolidate antennas, spares, and replacement hardware on a single order.
