Overview

The Cradlepoint BA-MC400-5GB is the MC400-5GB 5G modular modem, packaged as an upgrade kit for AER2200 branch routers with modem doors and four antennas. It adds 5G FR1 NSA/SA and LTE Advanced Pro Cat 20 to the router, with up to 4.14 Gbps peak downlink. Use it as an upgrade or as a second modem for failover. The modem uses dual 4FF (nano) SIM slots.

The Ericsson Cradlepoint MC400-5GB is a 5G modular modem for MC400-capable routers. This SKU, BA-MC400-5GB, is packaged as an upgrade for AER2200 branch routers and includes modem doors and four antennas. Install it in an AER2200 to move the branch to 5G without replacing the router, or add it as a second modem to raise availability and coverage.

The modem supports 5G FR1 in both NSA and SA modes, alongside LTE Advanced Pro Category 20 on 3GPP Release 15. Its 5G NR band set runs from n71 (600) through n77, n78 and n79. Peak rates reach 4.14 Gbps downlink and 660 Mbps uplink under the manufacturer's stated conditions. It uses 4x4 MIMO, up to 7 downlink carrier aggregation on LTE, and WCDMA/DC-HSPA+ fallback. Dual 4FF SIM slots support SIM-based auto-carrier selection. The router can fail over to the second SIM when the primary plan's data cap is reached. The four included 600 MHz–6 GHz paddle antennas connect via SMA female connectors.

The modem is certified by AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. It is FirstNet Capable and certified for T-Mobile Connecting Heroes and Verizon Frontline. It supports private cellular networks, including FCC Part 96 CBRS Band 48, and provides passive GNSS and SMS.

The MC400-5GB operates from -30 °C to 70 °C and draws power over USB from the host router. It is compliant with MIL-STD-810G and SAE J1455 when installed in an IBR1700, or in an R1900 with an RX30-MC. Supported endpoints are the AER2200, IBR1700, E300, E3000, R1900 (with RX30-MC) and R920 (with RX20-MC). The Cradlepoint MC400 datasheet is available.
