Overview

The Cradlepoint TAA-BF-MC20-BT is the TAA-compliant version of the Ericsson Cradlepoint MC20BT, a Bluetooth Low Energy 5.2 module that installs in the expansion slot of E300 and E3000 enterprise branch routers. It runs in gateway mode to collect data from BLE IoT sensors, or in beacon mode for proximity marketing using iBeacon, Eddystone and AltBeacon. You configure and monitor it through NetCloud, so you don't need a separate Bluetooth network. An antenna is included.

The Ericsson Cradlepoint MC20BT adds Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity to E300 and E3000 routers. Branch locations can collect IoT data and run proximity engagement from the same device that already provides their networking, Wi-Fi 6 and security. This part number, TAA-BF-MC20-BT, is the TAA-compliant version of BF-MC20-BT. It suits U.S. public-sector and federal buyers with TAA procurement requirements. Using the module requires an E300 or E3000 router licensed to an Ericsson NetCloud Service plan.

In gateway mode, the module connects to Bluetooth sensors that report temperature, occupancy or vibration. Typical uses include food-safety monitoring, foot-traffic analysis, environmental monitoring and BLE-enabled medical equipment. You can bridge sensor data to LAN clients and upstream to cloud services such as AWS IoT Greengrass, Microsoft Azure IoT Central or an MQTT server. With bridging disabled, the router captures the data locally for retrieval. In gateway mode, NetCloud shows the status of the BLE interface and client analytics on a dashboard.

In beacon mode, the MC20BT sends periodic advertisements in iBeacon, Eddystone or AltBeacon format. When a Bluetooth-enabled device with the right privacy settings comes within range, it can trigger a marketing platform to send a welcome message or coupon.

The radio operates at 2.4 GHz with a maximum transmit power of 10 dBm. It covers up to 150 ft (46 m) indoors and supports up to 32 connectable devices and an unlimited number of non-connectable devices. Wi-Fi and BLE coexistence reduces interference when both radios are active. The module is certified under CB Scheme, FCC/IC, CE and Bluetooth SIG, with a calculated MTBF of more than 16 million hours.
