It gives professionals who work with large media libraries, design files or offline data sets a 13-inch tablet with its own 5G connection. The Ultra Retina XDR tandem OLED display offers 2752 x 2064 pixels at 264 ppi, ProMotion from 10Hz to 120Hz, 1000 nits full-screen and 1600 nits peak HDR brightness, and a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio. It is housed in a 5.1 mm enclosure that weighs 1.28 pounds.
In the 512GB configuration, the M5 has a 9-core CPU with 3 super cores and 6 efficiency cores. It also has a 10-core GPU with Neural Accelerators and hardware-accelerated ray tracing, a 16-core Neural Engine, and 12GB of unified memory at 153GB/s. The Media Engine handles H.264, HEVC, ProRes and ProRes RAW and adds AV1 decode. Unlike the 256GB model, this capacity records ProRes up to 4K at 30 fps with the 12MP Wide camera. That makes it a practical capture-and-edit tool for apps like DaVinci Resolve for iPad.
The Apple C1X modem delivers 5G (sub-6 GHz) and Gigabit LTE, both with 4x4 MIMO. The modem is eSIM only and data only. The Apple N1 chip provides Wi-Fi 7 with 2x2 MIMO, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. The Thunderbolt / USB 4 port runs at up to 40Gb/s for fast external storage. It also drives one external display at up to 6K 60Hz or 5K 120Hz.
