Overview

The Vertiv Avocent ACS8008-NA-DAC-400 is an 8-port advanced serial console server with an integrated 4G LTE Cat 4 modem for AT&T and Verizon. It gives IT teams secure in-band and out-of-band access to downstream network, server and power equipment. It fails over automatically between Gigabit Ethernet and cellular and runs on dual-entry redundant AC power supplies. Two SFP fiber ports, eight USB 2.0 ports and environmental sensor inputs are built into the 1.75 in high, TAA-compliant rack chassis.

The Vertiv Avocent ACS8008-NA-DAC-400 is the 8-port, North American cellular model in the Avocent ACS8000 advanced serial console family. It is built for IT managers and network operations teams who need a secure management gateway and single point of entry to critical equipment at edge sites, enterprise data centers and colocation facilities. It keeps that access available during partial or total outages of the production network.

Eight RS-232 ports on RJ45 connect to downstream console ports. The first two ports are selectable between RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485, and automatic Cyclades and Cisco pin-out conversion removes the need for adapters. The integrated 4G LTE Cat 4 modem has 3G fallback and a 2FF mini SIM slot. It is built for AT&T and Verizon and covers bands B2, B4, B5, B12, B13, B14, B66 and B71. Cellular can serve as the primary out-of-band path or as automatic failover from the two Gigabit RJ45 Ethernet and two Gigabit SFP fiber interfaces.

A 1-wire environmental sensor port and four digital inputs accept smoke, leak, pressure and dry-contact sensors, so the unit acts as a single-IP IoT gateway for site conditions. Auto-discovery and native command settings support Vertiv equipment. The unit also supports rack PDUs from Vertiv, ServerTech, APC, Raritan and Eaton, plus Vertiv GXT4 and GXT5 UPS systems. Eight USB 2.0 ports and a full-size SD card slot provide room for peripherals and storage.

Security features include customizable and preset security profiles, multiple access levels and an embedded cryptographic module based on a FIPS 140-2 validated module. Operations tools include time-stamped online and offline data logging, Zero-Touch Provisioning and integration with Avocent DSView software. Internal dual-entry, redundant 100–240 VAC supplies draw 35 W maximum, and the -400 suffix marks a TAA-compliant model.
