Overview

The Vertiv Avocent ACS8016-NA-DAC-400 is a 16-port advanced serial console server with a built-in 4G LTE Cat 4 modem for AT&T and Verizon. It provides secure in-band and out-of-band access to a full rack of network, server and power equipment. The unit fails over automatically from Gigabit Ethernet to cellular and runs on dual-entry redundant AC supplies. Two SFP fiber ports, eight USB 2.0 ports and environmental sensor inputs come in a 1.75 in high, TAA-compliant rack chassis.

The Vertiv Avocent ACS8016-NA-DAC-400 is the 16-port, North American cellular model in the Avocent ACS8000 advanced serial console family. It suits IT managers and NOC teams who manage a full rack or a busy edge site and need one secure gateway to every console port. That access stays available even when the production network is partly or fully down.

Sixteen RS-232 ports on RJ45 connect to downstream devices. The first two ports are selectable between RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485, and automatic Cyclades and Cisco pin-out conversion eliminates adapters. The integrated 4G LTE Cat 4 modem includes 3G fallback and a 2FF mini SIM slot. It covers LTE bands B2, B4, B5, B12, B13, B14, B66 and B71 for AT&T and Verizon. LTE can serve as the primary out-of-band link or as automatic failover from the two Gigabit RJ45 Ethernet and two Gigabit SFP fiber interfaces.

The unit also works as a single-IP IoT gateway for the site. A 1-wire environmental sensor port and four digital inputs accept smoke, leak, pressure and dry-contact sensors. Auto-discovery and native command settings support Vertiv equipment. Support also extends to rack PDUs from Vertiv, ServerTech, APC, Raritan and Eaton and to Vertiv GXT4 and GXT5 UPS systems. Eight USB 2.0 ports and a full-size SD card slot are included.

Access control uses customizable and preset security profiles, multiple access levels and an embedded cryptographic module based on a FIPS 140-2 validated module. Time-stamped online and offline logging supports compliance and troubleshooting. Zero-Touch Provisioning and Avocent DSView integration simplify rollout and central management. Power comes from internal dual-entry, redundant 100–240 VAC supplies at 35 W maximum input, and the -400 suffix designates TAA compliance.
