Overview

The Lantronix EMG 7500 (EMG751101S) is the 8-port RS-232 configuration of Lantronix's compact edge management gateway. It has 4 RJ45 serial ports on the front, 4 on the back, 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports and an internal LTE radio with a microSIM slot. When the primary network fails, the gateway switches to cellular so you keep console access to network and IT equipment at branch, retail and unmanned sites. It is managed with Lantronix Percepxion for Networking and carries a 3-year warranty.

The Lantronix EMG 7500 is the small-form-factor member of the EMG family of edge management gateways. It is designed for branch offices, retail stores and unmanned locations such as ATMs and cell towers. The EMG751101S uses the maximum 8-port I/O configuration: 8 RJ45 RS-232 serial device ports at 300 to 921600 bps, split 4 on the front panel and 4 on the back. It also has 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports, an RJ45 console port, a USB Type A host port and a microSD slot, all in a 163 x 145 x 43 mm chassis. On this 8-port configuration, the optional Wi-Fi and POTS modem modules are not available. Out-of-band access runs over the internal LTE radio.

When the primary connection is congested or unresponsive, the gateway fails over automatically to 4G/LTE and fails back once the primary link recovers. Lantronix states all global carriers are supported, with Private APN, VPN access and public or private IP addressing. Cisco-compatible IP SLA traffic monitors link performance to help prevent lights-out events.

Security covers TLS v1 through v1.3, a packet-filtering firewall and per-port permissions. Remote authentication works through LDAP/AD, RADIUS, Kerberos, TACACS+ and NIS, and cryptography is FIPS 140-2 compliant (Certificate #2398). Up to 15 users can share each device port. Every port buffers 256 KB and can log to local files, syslog, USB, SD card or NFS.

The gateway works with Lantronix Percepxion for Networking for centralized monitoring, zero-touch provisioning and mobile app access. Secure REST APIs and Python scripting support automation. It ships with a desktop power supply, also accepts an external 9-30 VDC feed, and uses 20 W. The product brief, quick start guide and user guide are available.

Questions buyers ask

Where are the 8 serial ports located?

With the 8-port I/O configuration, 4 RJ45 RS-232 ports are on the front panel and 4 are on the back panel. All run at 300 to 921600 bps with software-programmable reversible pinouts.

Does the 8-port model support Wi-Fi or a POTS modem?

No. According to Lantronix's ordering guide, the Wi-Fi and POTS modem options are not available when the 8-port I/O module is selected. Out-of-band access uses the internal LTE radio.

How does cellular failover work?

When the primary network connection is congested or unresponsive, the EMG 7500 automatically fails over to 4G/LTE and fails back once the primary link recovers. It uses a microSIM and supports Private APN, VPN and public or private IP addressing.

How many people can use one console port at a time?

The EMG 7500 supports simultaneous user access to the same console port, with a maximum of 15 users per device port.
