The InHand InGateway IG502 (IG502-FQ33-W-G) merges two devices industrial integrators usually buy separately: a cellular IoT gateway and a small edge computer. On the connectivity side, an LTE Cat 4 modem (FQ33 radio option) provides the WAN link for remote and distributed sites, while Fast Ethernet connects local controllers, meters, and devices. This -W-G configuration adds Wi-Fi for local wireless connectivity and GPS for location reporting on distributed assets.
On the compute side, the ARM-based platform runs user-developed edge applications — typically Python — directly on the gateway. That means protocol conversion, data filtering, local alarming, and store-and-forward buffering happen on site: you transmit the data that matters instead of streaming raw registers over a metered cellular plan, and local logic keeps operating even when the WAN link drops.
