Overview

The InHand Networks IR302-FQ38-WLAN is a compact industrial LTE Cat 4 router with Wi-Fi for North American IoT and commercial sites. Its FQ38 module covers LTE B2/B4/B5/B12/B13/B14/B66/B71 and is certified with Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and FirstNet, plus FCC, IC and PTCRB. It provides dual Nano-SIM backup, two 10/100 Ethernet ports, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and IPsec, OpenVPN and WireGuard VPN. The router runs from 9–36V DC in a fanless IP30 metal enclosure.

The IR302-FQ38-WLAN is the North America LTE Cat 4 build of InHand Networks' IR302 industrial router. It includes Wi-Fi and is designed for sites that need cellular WAN, Ethernet and local wireless access, without serial or I/O options. The FQ38 module covers LTE FDD B2/B4/B5/B12/B13/B14/B66/B71 with WCDMA B2/B4/B5 fallback. InHand lists the FQ38 as certified with Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and FirstNet, along with FCC, IC and PTCRB approvals. Two Nano-SIM drawers support carrier backup, with switching on ICCID binding, an RSRP threshold or packet loss.

Local connectivity includes one 10/100 Mbps WAN/LAN switchable port and one 10/100 Mbps LAN port. The 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi has a 72 Mbps negotiated rate, with typical LAN-to-WLAN throughput of 54 Mbps at 1 m and 31 Mbps at 10 m. VPN options include IPsec (IKEv1/v2), OpenVPN, WireGuard, L2TP, GRE, PPTP and ZeroTier. The router also provides a firewall, ACLs, MAC-IP binding, content filtering and VRRP.

The full metal, fanless IP30 housing measures about 100 × 30 × 100 mm and weighs about 250 g. It operates from -35°C to 70°C, or from -40°C to 75°C in the extended range. The 9–36V DC input includes reverse polarity and surge protection, and the router mounts on a panel, wall or optional DIN rail kit.

The InHand Device Manager handles batch configuration, firmware upgrades and alarms across distributed fleets. SNMP v1/v2c/v3, a web UI, a CLI, SSH and an HTTP/HTTPS API are also available. The IR302 datasheet (V1.2) is available.

Does this version include serial or I/O ports?

No. The IR302-FQ38-WLAN has no serial/IO option. It provides cellular, two 10/100 Ethernet ports and 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi.

How fast is the Wi-Fi?

The 802.11 b/g/n radio negotiates at 72 Mbps. Typical LAN-to-WLAN throughput is 54 Mbps at 1 m, 41 Mbps at 5 m, 31 Mbps at 10 m and 14 Mbps at 30 m, depending on obstacles.

How do I enable Wi-Fi?

Wi-Fi is disabled by default. In the web GUI, set Network > Switch WLAN Mode to AP. Then enable Network > WLAN and configure the SSID, security type and password.

How do I log in for the first time?

Connect a computer to a LAN port and set it to DHCP or a 192.168.2.x address. Browse to http://192.168.2.1 and use the credentials printed on the device label.
