Overview

The InHand Networks IR315-FF39-WLAN-S-G is the fully optioned North American LTE Cat 6 build of the IR315 industrial router. It adds multi-constellation GNSS to dual Nano-SIM cellular, five 10/100 Ethernet ports and 2.4 GHz 802.11n Wi-Fi. It also has one RS-232 and one RS-485 port. The router is housed in a fanless IP30 DIN-rail metal enclosure and runs on 9–36 V DC. It is designed for unattended industrial, utility, transport and commercial IoT sites that need location data alongside secure connectivity.

The InHand Networks IR315-FF39-WLAN-S-G is the North American LTE Cat 6 version of the IR315 industrial router, configured with Wi-Fi, serial and GNSS. The -G option adds positioning across GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and QZSS, with ±2.5 m accuracy. That makes the unit a good fit for assets whose location matters, such as vehicles, portable equipment and widely distributed field installations. GNSS parameters can be reported alongside cellular signal data.

The interface set covers most field cabinets. Five 10/100 Mbps RJ45 ports can be configured as WAN, LAN or VLAN, each with 1.5 kV isolation. One RS-232 and one RS-485 port support DTU transparent transmission and Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP bridging. The 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi runs at up to 300 Mbps in AP, Client or WDS mode.

For continuity, the router provides a dual Nano-SIM drawer with policy-based SIM switching. It also supports cellular/WAN hot backup, cold backup and load balancing, along with VRRP and an embedded watchdog. Security includes an SPI firewall, DoS protection, ACLs, 802.1x and signed firmware. VPN options are IPsec with up to 10 tunnels, OpenVPN, WireGuard, ZeroTier, L2TP, GRE, DMVPN and PPTP.

The fanless IP30 metal housing mounts on DIN rail and accepts 9–36 V DC with overcurrent and reverse-polarity protection. It is tested to IEC shock, vibration and drop standards. Operating range is -35 °C to 70 °C, or -40 °C to 75 °C on extended versions. Management options include InHand Device Manager, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, HTTP/HTTPS API, SSH and SMS alarms. Questions buyers ask

What does the -G suffix add?

GNSS positioning. It supports GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and QZSS with ±2.5 m accuracy. The router can also use GPS for time synchronization of its NTP server.

Is this router 5G?

No. The IR315-FF39-WLAN-S-G uses a North American LTE Cat 6 module. InHand offers 5G models in the IR315 family, but this SKU is 4G LTE.

Does it include digital I/O?

No. Serial and 4 × I/O are mutually exclusive options on the IR315. This -S unit provides one RS-232 and one RS-485 port.

Can it switch between two SIM cards automatically?

Yes. The dual Nano-SIM drawer supports switching policies based on signal quality, ICMP detection, packet loss and dial failure count.

How is it powered and mounted?

It accepts 9–36 V DC through a 2-pin industrial terminal with overcurrent and reverse-polarity protection, and it mounts on DIN rail.
