Overview

The InHand Networks IR315-FF39-WLAN-S is a North American LTE Cat 6 industrial router for unattended sites and IoT deployments. It combines dual Nano-SIM cellular, five 10/100 Ethernet ports, 2.4 GHz 802.11n Wi-Fi and one RS-232 plus one RS-485 serial port in a fanless, DIN-rail metal enclosure. The router adds a full VPN stack, SPI firewall, VRRP, and cellular/WAN failover. It runs on 9–36 V DC and is managed through InHand Device Manager.

The InHand Networks IR315-FF39-WLAN-S is the North American LTE Cat 6 build of the IR315 industrial router, configured with Wi-Fi and a serial interface. It is built for IT and operations teams that need dependable connectivity at unattended sites such as cabinets, kiosks, substations, pump stations and commercial IoT installations. The router can connect over cellular, wired WAN or Wi-Fi. Five 10/100 Mbps RJ45 ports can be assigned as WAN, LAN or VLAN, and each port has 1.5 kV isolation protection.

The -S configuration adds one RS-232 and one RS-485 port. Legacy controllers can use them for DTU transparent transmission over TCP/UDP or for Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP bridging. The -WLAN option provides 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi at up to 300 Mbps, with AP, Client and WDS modes on two RP-SMA antenna connectors.

Uptime features include a dual Nano-SIM drawer and SIM switching based on signal, packet loss or dial-failure thresholds. The router also supports cellular/WAN hot backup, cold backup and load balancing, plus VRRP and an embedded watchdog. On the security side, it offers an SPI firewall, DoS protection, ACLs, 802.1x, IPsec (IKEv1/IKEv2, up to 10 tunnels), OpenVPN, WireGuard, ZeroTier, L2TP, GRE, DMVPN and signed firmware.

The fanless metal housing is rated IP30 and runs from 9–36 V DC, with overcurrent and reverse-polarity protection. It operates from -35 °C to 70 °C, or from -40 °C to 75 °C on extended-temperature versions. Fleets can be managed through InHand Device Manager, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, HTTP/HTTPS API or SSH. Questions buyers ask

Does the IR315-FF39-WLAN-S support 5G?

No. This part number uses a North American LTE Cat 6 module. InHand offers 5G versions within the IR315 family, but this SKU is 4G LTE.

Does this model have digital I/O?

No. On the IR315, the serial option and the 4 × I/O option are mutually exclusive. The -S suffix means this unit has one RS-232 and one RS-485 port instead of I/O.

Can it use wired internet as primary and cellular as backup?

Yes. Under Network > Link Backup, set WAN as the main link and cellular as the backup. Then choose hot backup or cold backup and set an ICMP detection server. Load balancing mode is also available.

How do I log in for the first time?

Connect a computer to a LAN port and set it to DHCP or a 192.168.2.x address. Browse to http://192.168.2.1 and sign in with the credentials printed on the device label.

Does it set the APN automatically?

In most cases, yes. The IR315 detects the carrier and applies the matching APN, with built-in profiles for operators including AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile. You can also set the APN manually under Network > Cellular.
