Overview

The Lantronix EMG 8500 (EMG851020S) is a compact 1U out-of-band edge management gateway with a 4-port RS-232 (RJ45) serial module and an LTE cellular radio for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. It is intended for deployments in APAC markets. US and other buyers should choose the standard LTE model (EMG851010S), because the radio bands and certifications differ by region. The gateway fails over to LTE automatically so administrators keep console access to remote equipment during outages.

The Lantronix EMG 8500 Edge Management Gateway provides lights-out management for branch offices, retail stores and remote sites where space is limited. Model EMG851020S has a 4-port RS-232 (RJ45) device port module and an LTE APAC cellular module. This is the Asia-Pacific regional variant, and its radio bands and certifications differ from the standard LTE model. It is intended for APAC deployments. US buyers should look to the EMG851010S.

An integrated fail-over and fail-back mechanism switches the out-of-band path to 4G/LTE when the primary connection is congested or unresponsive. It supports Private APN, VPN access, and public or private IP addressing. Network Performance Monitoring with IPSLA simulation traffic helps prevent lights-out scenarios. In-band connectivity uses two GbE RJ45 ports or two SFP fiber ports. Device ports run from 300 to 921600 bps with software-programmable reversible pinouts. Each port has 256 KB of buffering, and logs can go to local files, syslog, USB, SD card or NFS.

Security includes TLS 1.0 through 1.3, a packet-filtering firewall, per-port permissions and LDAP/AD, RADIUS, Kerberos, TACACS+ and NIS authentication. Encryption uses NIST-certified AES (FIPS-197) and FIPS 140-2 compliant cryptography (Certificate #2398). Remote power management controls supported PDUs and UPSs. Sensorsoft integration adds environmental monitoring.

The 1U chassis measures 8.37 x 6.60 x 1.70 in and runs on external 9-30 VDC power. It has two customer-replaceable IO module slots and two connectivity module slots, and it works with Lantronix Percepxion for Networking for central management.
