Lantronix EMG 8500 Edge Management Gateway with 8-Port RS-232 and LTE Cellular (EMG851110S)

The Lantronix EMG 8500 Edge Management Gateway provides lights-out management for sites where space is tight and IT staff are not on hand. Model EMG851110S is the 8-port RS-232 serial configuration with an LTE cellular module. It gives administrators remote console access to twice as many routers, switches, firewalls, servers and PDUs as the 4-port model.

An integrated fail-over and fail-back mechanism switches the out-of-band path to 4G/LTE when the primary connection is congested or unresponsive. It supports Private APN, VPN access, and public or private IP addressing. Network Performance Monitoring with IPSLA simulation traffic helps prevent lights-out scenarios. In-band connectivity uses two GbE RJ45 ports or two SFP fiber ports. RS-232 ports run from 300 to 921600 bps with software-programmable reversible pinouts. Each port has 256 KB of buffering, and logs can go to local files, syslog, USB, SD card or NFS, with event notification by email, SNMP or syslog.

Security includes TLS 1.0 through 1.3, a packet-filtering firewall, per-port permissions and LDAP/AD, RADIUS, Kerberos, TACACS+ and NIS authentication. Encryption uses NIST-certified AES (FIPS-197) and FIPS 140-2 compliant cryptography (Certificate #2398). Up to 15 users can share each device port. Remote power management controls supported PDUs and UPSs, and Sensorsoft integration adds environmental monitoring.

The 1U chassis measures 8.37 x 6.60 x 1.70 in, weighs 3.0 lbs maximum and runs on external 9-30 VDC power. Its customer-replaceable IO and connectivity module slots let the unit change with the site.
