Overview

The Lantronix EMG852010S is an EMG 8500 Edge Management Gateway with four USB device ports and an LTE cellular radio. It gives IT teams secure out-of-band access to the USB console ports of network and IT equipment at branch offices, retail stores and remote sites. If the primary network becomes congested or unresponsive, it fails over automatically to 4G/LTE. The unit fits a compact 1U chassis powered from 9-30 VDC.

The Lantronix EMG 8500 Edge Management Gateway is a small-form-factor out-of-band management appliance. It is built for branch offices, remote locations, retail stores and any site where a network device gateway is needed and space is limited. This configuration, EMG852010S, provides four USB device ports and an LTE cellular radio. It is a good fit for equipment that exposes USB console ports.

The integrated fail-over/fail-back mechanism keeps management access available over 4G/LTE when the primary connection is congested or unresponsive. The cellular link supports Private APN, VPN access, and public or private IP addressing. IPSLA-based network performance monitoring helps mitigate lights-out scenarios. Users reach device ports through Telnet/SSH, RAW-TCP or an HTML5 Java-free web terminal. Multiple sessions and simultaneous access to the same port are supported. Each port carries a 256 KB buffer, with logging to local files, syslog, USB, SD card or NFS. Event notification runs via email, SNMP or syslog.

Security includes TLS v1 through v1.3, a packet-filtering firewall, and per-port and per-group rights. Remote authentication supports LDAP/AD, RADIUS, Kerberos, TACACS+ and NIS. Encryption is a NIST-certified AES implementation, and the cryptography is FIPS 140-2 compliant (Certificate #2398). The two front IO module slots accept 4-port RS-232, 4-port USB or 4-port Ethernet switch modules. The two rear connectivity slots take LTE/4G, Wi-Fi or dial-up modem modules, and all of these modules are customer replaceable.

The gateway has 1 GB NAND flash, 1 GB DRAM and a microSD slot for up to 128 GB. It operates from 0 to 50 °C and weighs 3.0 lbs maximum depending on options. It works with Lantronix Percepxion for Networking for centralized management. A product brief, quick start guide and user guide are published by Lantronix, and the manufacturer warranty is 3 years.
