Overview

The Lantronix EMG852020S is an EMG 8500 Edge Management Gateway with four USB device ports and an LTE cellular radio for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) market. It provides secure out-of-band access to USB console ports on network and IT equipment at branch offices, retail stores and remote sites in APAC regions. If the primary network fails, it can fail over automatically to 4G/LTE. It fits a compact 1U chassis.

The Lantronix EMG 8500 Edge Management Gateway is a compact out-of-band management appliance for branch offices, remote locations and retail stores where space is limited. This configuration, EMG852020S, combines four USB device ports with an LTE cellular radio built for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) market. It is intended for APAC deployments. For other regions, Lantronix offers the LTE Cellular version of the same USB 4-port model, EMG852010S.

Automatic fail-over/fail-back moves management access to 4G/LTE when the primary connection is congested or unresponsive. The cellular link supports Private APN, VPN access, and public or private IP addressing. IPSLA simulation traffic supports network performance monitoring. Device ports are reachable over Telnet/SSH, RAW-TCP or an HTML5 Java-free web terminal, and up to 15 users can share each port. Port buffering of 256 KB per port, character string recognition and email, SNMP or syslog notifications help teams spot and diagnose faults quickly.

Security includes TLS v1 through v1.3, a packet-filtering firewall, and per-port and per-group permissions. Remote authentication supports LDAP/AD, RADIUS, Kerberos, TACACS+ and NIS. Encryption is a NIST-certified AES implementation, and the cryptography is FIPS 140-2 compliant (Certificate #2398). The front IO module slots and rear connectivity slots are customer replaceable. They support RS-232, USB or Ethernet switch device modules, and LTE/4G, Wi-Fi or dial-up modem out-of-band options.

The gateway runs on 9-30 VDC external power and operates from 0 to 50 °C. It measures 212.6 x 167.68 x 43.21 mm in 1U and weighs 3.0 lbs maximum depending on options. It works with Lantronix Percepxion for Networking for centralized management and mobile access. Lantronix publishes a product brief, quick start guide and user guide, and the manufacturer warranty is 3 years.
