Overview

The InHand Networks IR302-FQ38-IO is a compact industrial 4G LTE Cat 4 router built for North American networks. It is certified with Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and FirstNet, plus FCC, IC and PTCRB. It gives unattended IoT and industrial sites a dual-SIM cellular link, two 10/100 Ethernet ports, an RS232 serial port and 2 I/O. The router adds VPN, firewall and cloud management in a fanless metal IP30 enclosure rated for -35°C to 70°C. This configuration has no Wi-Fi.

The IR302-FQ38-IO is the North American LTE Cat 4 version of InHand Networks' IR302 industrial router. It is designed for IoT and industrial automation sites that need a small, dependable cellular gateway, such as remote cabinets, kiosks, meters, PLC panels and unattended equipment. The FQ38 radio covers LTE FDD bands B2/B4/B5/B12/B13/B14/B66/B71 with WCDMA B2/B4/B5 fallback. It is certified with Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and FirstNet, and carries FCC, IC and PTCRB approvals. The -IO suffix adds 2 I/O. This configuration does not include Wi-Fi.

Two Nano-SIM slots support dual-SIM backup. Switching can be triggered by ICCID binding, an RSRP signal threshold or packet loss. Both slots feed two SMA antenna ports for main and diversity antennas. On the wired side there is one 10/100 Mbps WAN/LAN switchable port, one 10/100 Mbps LAN port and an RS232 terminal. The RS232 port supports DTU transparent transmission over TCP Server/Client, UDP and MQTT, with optional Modbus RTU/TCP conversion.

For security, the IR302 includes a firewall, ACLs, MAC-IP binding (200 entries), content filtering and attack protection. VPN options cover IPsec (IKEv1/v2), GRE, L2TP, PPTP, OpenVPN, WireGuard and ZeroTier. You can manage the router locally through the web UI, CLI, SSH, SNMP v1/v2c/v3 or the HTTP/HTTPS API. For fleets, InHand Device Manager handles batch configuration, firmware upgrades, monitoring and alarms. SMS commands allow remote reboot.

The hardware is a 580 MHz industrial processor with 128 MB DDR and 32 MB flash. It sits in a full-metal fanless IP30 enclosure measuring about 100 x 30 x 100 mm and weighing about 250 g, with DIN rail or wall mounting. It accepts 9-36V DC with reverse polarity protection, draws 2-5W typical and is rated for 100,000+ hours MTBF. The manufacturer warranty is 3 years. How do I log in to the IR302 for the first time?

Install the antennas and insert the SIM with the router powered off, then connect power. Connect a computer to a LAN port; both ports are LAN by default. Set the computer to DHCP or a 192.168.2.x static IP, open http://192.168.2.1 in a browser, and log in with the credentials printed on the device label.

How do I set the APN?

Log in and go to Network > Cellular, then select your carrier profile under SIM1 Network Provider. For a custom APN, edit it in the Profiles section, select that profile index, and click Apply. A steady Cellular LED means the router is connected.

What power does the IR302 need?
