Cisco IR829M-LTE-LA-ZK9 Industrial 4G LTE Router with Dual-Band Wi-Fi, PoE and SFP

The Cisco IR829M-LTE-LA-ZK9 is a compact, ruggedized router built for harsh industrial and mobile deployments such as fleet vehicles, mass transit, public safety and remote asset monitoring. This single-LTE model is specified by Cisco for Australia, New Zealand and Brazil. Its modem covers FDD LTE bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 18, 19, 21 and 28 and TDD LTE bands 38 to 41, with WCDMA and TD-SCDMA fallback. The Wi-Fi regulatory domain is ETSI. Cisco marks this band set as unsuitable for the United States, Canada, Europe and the Middle East.

For WAN resilience, the router combines 4G LTE, a Gigabit Ethernet or Fast Ethernet SFP port and dual SIM slots that run in active/backup mode, with Auto-SIM carrier selection. Cisco quotes peak rates of 100 Mbps downlink and 50 Mbps uplink for the single-LTE model. Its LTE specification table lists 150/50 Mbps theoretical. Multiple PDNs, up to 8 LTE QoS bearers and multi-VRF let you keep sensor, operational and public traffic separate.

On the LAN side, a 4-port Gigabit Ethernet managed switch delivers 30 W of PoE/PoE+ shared across the ports for cameras, sensors and PLCs. The integrated Cisco AP803 dual-radio 802.11a/b/g/n 2x2 MIMO access point can act as an access point and a mesh client at the same time. Two serial ports (RS232 and RS232/RS485) support raw socket SCADA transport and DNP3 and IEC 60870 T101-to-T104 protocol translation.

For vehicles, the router adds GPS through an SMA connector, an accelerometer and gyroscope, and ignition power management. Security includes a stateful firewall, hardware-assisted IPsec, AES, 3DES, SHA, DMVPN and FlexVPN. The Cisco IOx edge-compute environment and an optional 50 GB or 100 GB mSATA SSD support local applications. You can manage the router through the Cisco IOS CLI, SNMP, Cisco IoT Operations Dashboard or Field Network Director.
