Overview

The Cisco Meraki MG52E is a cloud-managed 5G cellular gateway with a 5G SA/NSA Sub-6 GHz and LTE Cat 20 modem rated up to 2 Gbps down and 300 Mbps up. It supports a cloud-managed eSIM alongside two nano SIM slots and hands off cellular over two 2.5 GbE ports. The IP67-rated unit runs on PoE+ or DC and ships with four dipole antennas for wall, ceiling or pole installs.

  • 5G SA/NSA Sub-6 GHz and LTE Cat 20 modem (Telit FN990A40)
  • Up to 2 Gbps / 300 Mbps passthrough and 1.5 Gbps / 300 Mbps NAT throughput
  • Cloud-managed eSIM plus two nano (4FF) SIM slots with auto SIM failover
  • Two 2.5 GbE RJ45 ports: one dedicated LAN, one convertible LAN/WAN
  • PoE+ (802.3at, 16 W max) or 12V DC powered
  • IP67-rated housing with four included dipole antennas and optional patch antennas
  • Managed through the Cisco Meraki dashboard with API support
  • Bring a site online the same day with cloud-managed eSIM and zero-touch provisioning

The Cisco Meraki MG52E (MG52E-HW) is built for organizations scaling always-on 5G connectivity across branches, remote sites and locations where wired service is slow to arrive or costly. It converts 5G or LTE into an Ethernet handoff for a Meraki MX or any third-party router. It can serve as a primary uplink, a failover path, an SD-WAN transport, or a shared uplink for an MX high-availability pair.

At its core is a Telit FN990A40 modem supporting 5G Standalone and Non-Standalone on Sub-6 GHz, with LTE Cat 20 carrier aggregation across 5G and LTE. Rated throughput is up to 2 Gbps / 300 Mbps in passthrough mode and 1.5 Gbps / 300 Mbps with NAT, backed by 4x4 downlink MIMO. Certified carriers include AT&T, AT&T FirstNet, T-Mobile and Verizon in the US, plus Optus and Spark NZ.

Day-zero setup is faster with the cloud-managed eSIM. The gateway can connect to a cellular network without a physical SIM, while two nano (4FF) slots add dual-carrier options, Granite Multi-Carrier SIM support and automatic SIM failover. Two 2.5 GbE ports, one dedicated LAN and one convertible LAN/WAN, keep the cellular link from being bottlenecked by the wired side.

The IP67-rated housing mounts on walls, ceilings or poles with the included bracket. It draws up to 16 W over 802.3at PoE+ or runs from a 12V DC adapter. The box includes the gateway, a mounting plate and four smart dipole antennas, and an optional patch antenna pair is available. Everything is managed from the Cisco Meraki dashboard, with remote cellular diagnostics, scheduled firmware and API access. Cisco Meraki covers the hardware with a full lifetime warranty and next-day advanced replacement.

Ideal for

  • Primary 5G WAN for branches where wired service is unavailable, slow or expensive
  • Cellular failover or SD-WAN transport for a Meraki MX or third-party router
  • Shared uplink for an MX high-availability pair
  • Rapid day-zero site turn-up using cloud-managed eSIM
  • Outdoor, pole or ceiling installs where 5G signal is strongest

Questions buyers ask

Does the MG52E need a physical SIM card?

Not necessarily. The MG52E includes a cloud-managed eSIM that can connect it to a cellular network without a physical SIM. It also has two nano (4FF) SIM slots for dual-carrier setups.

What is the difference between passthrough and NAT throughput?

Cisco Meraki rates the MG52E at up to 2 Gbps down / 300 Mbps up in passthrough mode and 1.5 Gbps down / 300 Mbps up in NAT mode.

Can I use third-party antennas with the MG52E?

No. The RP-SMA sockets are designed to detect official Meraki smart dipole and patch antennas. Non-Meraki antennas are not supported, and all four antennas should be connected.

What happens if both PoE and the power adapter are connected?

The power adapter always takes priority. Connecting the adapter to a PoE-powered unit causes a power cycle onto the adapter. If adapter power is lost while PoE is connected, the unit also power cycles.

Which carriers have certified the MG52E?

Certified carriers include AT&T, AT&T FirstNet, T-Mobile, Verizon, Optus and Spark NZ. Certification with Telstra and Orange (France) is in progress.
