Overview

The Fortinet FortiExtenderVehicle 212F-AM (FEV-212F-AM) is a rugged broadband wireless WAN router for vehicles and OT applications. It is built around two internal Sierra Wireless EM7511 LTE Cat-12 modems, each rated up to 600 Mbps down and 150 Mbps up, with dual-SIM failover for North American carriers. The router adds one GE WAN and four GE LAN ports, 2x2 802.11ac Wave 2 Wi-Fi and GPS/GNSS. It runs on 7-36V DC power and is IP64, EN 50155 and MIL-STD-810H certified. The external LTE antenna is sold separately.

The Fortinet FortiExtenderVehicle 212F-AM is the dual-modem member of the FortiExtenderVehicle line, a rugged broadband wireless WAN router for fleet vehicles, rolling stock and operational technology sites. It extends the Fortinet Security Fabric to mobile and remote equipment, giving onboard systems a managed and secured connection wherever the vehicle operates.

Two internal Sierra Wireless EM7511 modems provide LTE Cat-12 connectivity, with downlink up to 600 Mbps and uplink up to 150 Mbps, plus 3G UMTS/HSPA+ fallback. The -AM model targets North America carriers and is certified by PTCRB, AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. It is FirstNet Capable (LTE only), and its band list includes LTE Band 14 but not Band 28. Dual-SIM support with intelligent failover uses Micro-SIM (3FF) cards behind a security cover. SMA connectors (MAIN, AUX, GPS) accept a vehicle LTE antenna, sold separately. Two Wi-Fi antennas and one Bluetooth antenna are included.

The chassis measures 1.77 x 5.11 x 7.16 in, weighs 2.1 lb and mounts on a wall, in a vehicle or on a desktop. It runs on 7-36V DC from 12V or 24V vehicle systems and operates from -40°C to 70°C. Ratings include IP64, EN 50155 Class S1 and MIL-STD-810H and SAE J1455 for shock, vibration and humidity.

Five GE RJ45 ports (1 WAN, 4 LAN), 2x2 2.4/5 GHz 802.11ac Wave 2 Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a USB 2.0 Type-A port serve onboard devices. Management runs through FortiGate and FortiManager, with L2 tunnel mode via VLAN or CAPWAP, private IP SIM support, 120 Mbps IPsec VPN and 90 Mbps VxLAN-over-IPsec LAN extension.

What is the difference between the FEV-212F-AM and the FEV-211F-AM?

The 212F-AM has two internal Sierra Wireless EM7511 LTE Cat-12 modems, while the 211F-AM has one. Chassis, ports, Wi-Fi, power input and ruggedness ratings are the same.

Does it support FirstNet Band 14?

Yes. LTE Band 14 is in the band list, and the router is FirstNet Capable (LTE only). Band 28 is not supported.

Is the LTE antenna included?

No. The vehicle LTE antenna is sold separately, and the router has SMA connectors for LTE MAIN, AUX and GPS. Two Wi-Fi antennas and one Bluetooth antenna are included.
