Overview

The Fortinet FortiExtenderWAN-50G-AM (FEW-50G-AM) is an indoor desktop or wall-mount 5G/LTE gateway that extends a FortiGate WAN over cellular. A MediaTek T830 5G module reaches up to 7 Gbps down and 2.5 Gbps up in 5G Sub-6 SA mode, with dual nano-SIM slots plus an eSIM for North America carriers. It has two multi-gig RJ45 ports rated up to 5GbE, internal 5G/LTE and GNSS antennas, USB 3.0, an RJ45 console port and BLE 5.0+. It can be powered over 802.3at PoE or by the included DC adapter.

The Fortinet FortiExtenderWAN-50G-AM is an indoor 5G/LTE broadband wireless WAN router built for WAN extension with FortiGate. It suits branch offices, microbranches, point-of-sale systems, kiosks, healthcare facilities and factories that need a high-speed cellular WAN, either as a primary link or as backup to wired broadband. It is managed through FortiGate and FortiManager, with cloud and on-premises management options and out-of-band management.

Connectivity comes from a single MediaTek T830 (HMT89-LD) 5G module supporting 5G NR SA and NSA on bands including n41, n71, n77 and n78, with LTE-FDD, LTE-TDD and LAA B46. Peak speeds reach 7 Gbps download and 2.5 Gbps upload in 5G Sub-6 SA mode. Dual nano-SIM (4FF) slots with intelligent failover sit behind a security cover, and an eSIM is also available. The device is PTCRB certified, and its AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon device certifications are listed as in progress. Eight internal 5G/LTE antennas with 4x4 MIMO, plus an internal GNSS antenna covering GPS, BDS, GLONASS, Galileo and QZSS (L1 + L5), keep installation simple.

Two RJ45 ports run at 5GbE, 2.5GbE or 1GbE. Port 2 is an IEEE 802.3at (25.5 W) PoE powered port, so the unit can run from a single cable. A DC power adapter is also included. You also get a USB 3.0 Type-A port, an RJ45 console port, BLE 5.0+ and a device-locking screw hole.

Fortinet rates the FEW-50G-AM at 2.81 Gbps down and 3.10 Gbps up for NAT throughput, and 430/50 Mbps for IPsec VPN over cellular. It draws 15 W on average and operates from 0°C to 40°C.
