Overview

Get fiber-class cellular throughput where the trench never arrives. The Fortinet FortiExtender 311F (FEX-311F) puts a dual-SIM 3G/4G LTE Cat 16 M.2 module behind your existing security stack, plugging straight into the Fortinet Security Fabric so the new link inherits the same policy, inspection, and visibility as the rest of the network. Two GE WAN ports (one SFP, one RJ45) plus four GE LAN ports let it anchor the whole site, and 802.3at PoE PD delivers up to 25.5 W over a single cable.

The FortiExtender 311F is part of Fortinet's FortiExtender line, built on the company's security-driven networking approach: connectivity and security are configured together rather than bolted on afterward. This high-throughput model carries a dual-SIM 3G/4G LTE Cat 16 M.2 module, rated to 1 Gbps downlink and 150 Mbps uplink — enough to serve as a genuine broadband replacement, not just an emergency fallback.

The port complement stands out in its class: an SFP WAN slot supports fiber handoff alongside the RJ45 WAN, four GE LAN ports serve the site directly, and GPS/GNSS provides location service. Four external antennas support the 4x4-class radio, and the 7.8 x 1.8 inch chassis mounts on a desktop or wall. Note that the power adapter is sold separately — most installs power the unit via PoE.

Management options fit both single sites and thousand-site fleets. A FortiGate can adopt and control the unit through Security Fabric integration, while FortiExtender Cloud provides zero-touch provisioning, monitoring, and firmware management at scale; FortiManager support rounds out the tooling.
