Overview

The Fortinet FortiWiFi 50G-5G-II (FWF-50G-5G-II-A, Region Code A) combines a FortiGate next-generation firewall, SD-WAN, network controller and dual-band 802.11ax Wi-Fi in one desktop appliance. An embedded Telit Cinterion FN990A28-HP 3G/4G/LTE/5G modem with two nano-SIM slots serves as primary or backup WAN. Five GE RJ45 ports, 1.1 Gbps Threat Protection throughput and FortiOS make it a strong fit for distributed branch sites.

The FortiWiFi 50G-5G-II is a desktop FortiGate appliance for distributed enterprise sites that need firewalling, SD-WAN, wireless and cellular WAN in one box. This SKU, FWF-50G-5G-II-A, is the Region Code A hardware. It runs FortiOS, Fortinet's converged networking and security operating system, and it is built on Fortinet's patented SD-WAN-based ASIC with an embedded multi-core processor. SD-WAN and the network controller are included in every FortiGate appliance at no extra cost.

For WAN connectivity, the unit carries an embedded Telit Cinterion FN990A28-HP 5G modem with two nano-SIM slots in active/passive mode. The modem supports 5G NR bands from n1 to n79, broad LTE coverage including B2, B4, B5, B12, B13, B14, B66 and B71, diversity, MIMO and GNSS. Fortinet lists PTCRB, AT&T and Verizon certification and FirstNet capability, with T-Mobile certification targeted for Q4 26. External SMA antenna ports let you place the antennas for the best signal.

On the LAN side you get 5 GE RJ45 ports: 1 WAN, 3 hardware-accelerated LAN and 1 FortiLink port by default. A dual-radio 2x2 MU-MIMO 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax interface delivers up to 1201 Mbps at 5 GHz and 574 Mbps at 2.4 GHz. The appliance also includes USB, an RJ45 console port, a TPM, Bluetooth Low Energy and a signed-firmware hardware switch.

Performance is sized for busy branches. Fortinet rates it at 5 Gbps firewall throughput, 4.5 Gbps IPsec VPN, 2.25 Gbps IPS, 1.25 Gbps NGFW and 1.1 Gbps Threat Protection, with 720,000 concurrent sessions. It can manage up to 8 FortiSwitches and 16 FortiAPs and supports Active-Active, Active-Passive and clustering HA.
