Overview

The Fortinet FortiGate Rugged 60G-5G (FGR-60G-5G) is a fanless, IP40 next-generation firewall built for industrial and OT networks that need 5G WAN. An embedded Telit Cinterion FN990A28-HP 5G modem with two SIM slots joins FortiOS security, Secure SD-WAN and the FortiSP5 processor. The unit has six GE RJ45 ports, two SFP slots, a bypass pair, RJ45 serial, digital I/O, a microSD slot and redundant 12V to 125V DC power.

The FortiGate Rugged 60G-5G brings Fortinet's G-series secure processing and embedded 5G to harsh-environment deployments such as substations, rail and rolling stock, remote industrial sites and OT networks. The fanless IP40 chassis mounts on a desktop, DIN rail or wall. It operates from -40°C to 75°C (-40°F to 167°F) and is certified to IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613. It also meets EN 50155:2021 for rolling stock, with EMC, environmental, shock and vibration certification.

The Telit Cinterion FN990A28-HP 5G modem covers a broad set of 5G NR bands, including n41, n71, n77, n78 and n79, as well as LTE bands B1 to B71 for all regions. It supports MIMO, diversity and passive GPS, and holds two SIM slots in an active/passive arrangement. Four external SMA WWAN antennas are included. Carrier certifications cover PTCRB, AT&T and T-Mobile, with Verizon in progress, and the unit is AT&T FirstNet Capable on 5G.

The wired interfaces are 6 GE RJ45 LAN/WAN ports, 2 dedicated GE SFP slots and a GE bypass pair between PORT1 and PORT2. The unit also provides an RJ45 data serial port, an RJ45 console port, USB-A 2.0, digital I/O, a microSD card slot and a TPM. The FortiSP5 processor delivers up to 8 Gbps firewall and 7.1 Gbps IPsec VPN throughput. On an enterprise traffic mix it rates 2.25 Gbps IPS, 1.25 Gbps NGFW and 1.1 Gbps threat protection, and it can manage up to 96 FortiAPs. Fortinet lists these performance metrics as provisional.
