Overview

The Cradlepoint S450 (TBT3-0450-C6-NA-N) is the Wi-Fi-free version of the S400 platform. It is a cloud-managed, semi-ruggedized LTE Cat 6 router for wired IoT endpoints in the U.S. and Canada. It has a dual-SIM modem rated to 300 Mbps download, Gigabit Ethernet, GNSS and an expansion slot for serial, GPIO or extra Ethernet. The bundle includes a 3-year NetCloud IoT Essentials plan, an AC power supply and antennas.

The Ericsson Cradlepoint S450 is the S400-series router built without Wi-Fi. It suits deployments where equipment connects by cable and a wireless access point is unwanted or not allowed. This part number, TBT3-0450-C6-NA-N, is the North America configuration for the U.S. and Canada. It ships with a 3-year NetCloud IoT Essentials plan, an AC power supply and antennas.

The embedded Cat 6 LTE modem provides dual 4FF SIM slots with SIM-based auto-carrier selection, 2x2 MIMO and downlink carrier aggregation. Peak rates reach 300 Mbps down and 50 Mbps up. Band support covers LTE 2, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 14, 25, 26, 29, 30, 66 and 71, plus TDD 41 and 48, including CBRS for private LTE. The modem is PTCRB certified, with operator certifications for AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon.

Wired connections start with one Gigabit Ethernet port (LAN/WAN selectable) and USB 2.0. An expansion slot accepts RS232 serial (DB-9), dual Fast Ethernet or a 20-pin GPIO module. GNSS covers GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou. The S450 draws 3.3 W typical on DC and accepts 9–33 VDC or 802.3af PoE. It is rated from -20 °C to 60 °C and IP30, meets MIL-STD-810H shock and vibration methods, and is certified for Class I Div 2 and ATEX Zone 2.

NetCloud IoT Essentials adds NetCloud Manager for management at scale, group policies, troubleshooting and software updates. It also includes zero trust connect-and-go security and 24x7 support. The hardware carries a limited lifetime warranty while the subscription is active.

How is the S450 different from the S400?

The S450 has no Wi-Fi radio and draws less power (2.9 W idle, 3.3 W typical, 4.6 W heavy on DC). Otherwise it shares the S400's LTE modem, interfaces, expansion slot and ratings.

Which carriers is it certified for?

The North America modem lists network operator certifications for AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. It is also PTCRB certified.

Can I connect serial equipment?

Yes. The expansion slot accepts a DB-9 RS232 serial module with hardware flow control. A dual Fast Ethernet module or a 20-pin GPIO module can be used instead.
