Fortinet FortiGate 51G-5G Firewall with Embedded 5G Modem and 1-Year FortiCare Premium & Enterprise Protection

The FortiGate 51G-5G is a branch security appliance from Fortinet's FortiGate/FortiWiFi 50G series. It combines next-generation firewalling, SD-WAN, a network controller and security services in one fanless desktop unit running FortiOS. This SKU, FG-51G-5G-BDL-809-12, adds a 1-year (12-month) FortiCare Premium and FortiGuard Enterprise Protection term to the hardware. The subscription covers IPS, anti-malware with FortiGate Cloud Sandbox, URL, DNS and video filtering, anti-spam, AI-based inline malware prevention, data loss prevention and attack surface security.

WAN connectivity comes from an embedded Telit Cinterion FN990A28-HP 5G modem. The modem has two nano SIM slots for active/passive use and five external SMA antenna ports. It supports a wide range of 5G NR and LTE bands for all regions. The modem is PTCRB, AT&T and Verizon certified and is FirstNet capable. Fortinet lists T-Mobile certification as a Q4 26 target. On the wired side, the unit has one GE WAN port, three GE RJ45 internal ports and one GE RJ45 FortiLink port, along with USB and RJ45 console ports, 64 GB of SSD storage, a TPM, BLE and a signed firmware hardware switch.

Fortinet's patented SD-WAN ASIC rates the unit for up to 5 Gbps firewall throughput, 4.5 Gbps IPsec VPN throughput, 1.25 Gbps NGFW throughput and 1.1 Gbps threat protection throughput. It also supports 720,000 concurrent sessions. The FortiGate 51G-5G manages up to 8 FortiSwitches and 16 FortiAPs. It supports Active-Active, Active-Passive and clustering high availability. The unit draws 8.9 W at maximum and runs silently at 0 dBA, so it fits in offices, retail back rooms and network closets.
