Overview

The Cradlepoint R2155 is the non-Wi-Fi model of the R2100 series, an exterior-mounted 5G ruggedized router for vehicles and IoT enclosures. It packs an embedded 5G NR FR1 and Cat 20 LTE modem, four internal cellular antennas and passive GNSS into an IP67, IK09 polycarbonate housing, and it delivers connectivity over a single 2.5 GbE LAN port. This TAA-compliant U.S. Federal Government SKU includes a 3-year NetCloud Ruggedized IoT Essentials plan. A SIM and AC power supply are not included.

The Ericsson Cradlepoint R2155 brings 5G to vehicles and IoT cabinets in a ruggedized housing that mounts on a roof or enclosure. It is the R2100-series model without Wi-Fi. That makes it a fit where connectivity should be delivered only over Ethernet, such as feeding an existing in-vehicle router or a wired IoT controller. The modem, four internal cellular antennas and router share one aerodynamic IP67 case rated IK09 and MIL-STD-810G for shock and vibration, with an operating range of -30 °C to 70 °C.

The embedded 5G NR FR1 modem supports NSA and SA networks with LTE Advanced Pro Category 20, 4x4 MIMO, dual 4FF SIM slots and peak rates up to 4.14 Gbps down and 660 Mbps up. It is certified for AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon and holds FirstNet Trusted, T-Mobile Connecting Heroes and Verizon Frontline Verified status. It also supports CBRS Band 48 private networks.

The most common role for the R2155 is a captive modem. Paired with a supported Cradlepoint controlling router, it adds 5G to an existing installation, and NetCloud Manager treats it as an internal modem that needs no separate license. A single 802.3at PoE cable can carry power and the 5G connection, or the unit can run from 9–36 VDC with ignition sensing. Its typical draw of 10 W is lower than the Wi-Fi-equipped R2105. A quad-core ARMv8 CPU with up to 1.8 GB memory and 8 GB flash runs Docker containers.

The bundled 3-year NetCloud Ruggedized IoT Essentials plan covers NetCloud Manager management and software updates for the full term. It also includes 24x7 support, Enterprise Wireless University access, and a limited lifetime hardware warranty while the subscription is active.

Does the R2155 have Wi-Fi?

No. The R2155 is the R2100-series model without Wi-Fi, and it delivers connectivity through its 2.5 GbE LAN port. If you need onboard Wi-Fi 6, choose the R2105.

Can it add 5G to my existing Cradlepoint router?
