Overview

The Fortinet FortiGate 50G-5G (FG-50G-5G-BDL-950-12) is a fanless desktop next-generation firewall for branch and distributed sites. It combines firewalling, SD-WAN, a network controller and an embedded Telit Cinterion 5G modem with dual nano-SIM slots in one appliance. This bundle includes the hardware plus a 1-year FortiCare Premium and FortiGuard Unified Threat Protection (UTP) subscription, covering IPS, anti-malware, URL/DNS/video filtering and anti-spam.

The FortiGate 50G-5G is a compact security appliance for branch offices, retail sites and other distributed locations that need a secure 5G WAN link. It runs FortiOS, Fortinet's converged networking and security operating system, on the company's patented SD-WAN ASIC. SD-WAN and network controller functions are included with the appliance at no extra cost. This SKU, FG-50G-5G-BDL-950-12, pairs the hardware with 12 months of FortiCare Premium and FortiGuard Unified Threat Protection.

The embedded Telit Cinterion FN990A28-HP modem covers a broad set of 5G NR and LTE bands, including n41, n71, n77 and B13/B14. It has two nano-SIM slots in active/passive mode and five SMA ports for external WWAN antennas. The modem is PTCRB, AT&T and Verizon certified and FirstNet capable, with T-Mobile certification targeted for Q4 2026. Wired connectivity consists of five GE RJ45 ports: one WAN, three internal and one FortiLink port by default. The unit also has a USB port, an RJ45 console port, a TPM, Bluetooth Low Energy and a signed firmware hardware switch.

Rated performance, per Fortinet's up-to figures, is 1.1 Gbps threat protection, 1.25 Gbps NGFW and 2.25 Gbps IPS on an enterprise traffic mix. It handles 4.5 Gbps IPsec VPN and 720,000 concurrent TCP sessions. It supports up to 8 FortiSwitches and 16 FortiAPs, and offers active-active, active-passive and clustering high availability.

The design is fanless and silent at 0 dBA, drawing 8.3 W on average from an external 12 VDC adapter. It weighs 2.2 lbs and measures 1.6 x 8.5 x 6.3 inches, so it fits on a desk or a shelf in a network closet. Fortinet publishes a data sheet and a QuickStart Guide for the 50G-5G.
