Overview

The Fortinet FortiGate 50G-5G (FG-50G-5G) is a fanless next-generation firewall with an embedded Telit Cinterion FN990A28-HP 5G modem, two nano SIM slots and five SMA antenna ports. It combines firewalling, SD-WAN, network controller and FortiGuard security services in a compact desktop appliance, delivering up to 1.25 Gbps NGFW and 1.1 Gbps threat protection throughput. Carrier certified for AT&T and Verizon and FirstNet capable, it is built for branch sites that need secure 5G WAN.

The FortiGate 50G-5G brings 5G WAN to Fortinet's 50G branch firewall. It runs FortiOS, Fortinet's converged networking and security platform, with SD-WAN and network controller included at no extra cost. Fortinet's SD-WAN-based ASIC and embedded multi-core processor deliver up to 5 Gbps firewall throughput, 2.25 Gbps IPS, 1.25 Gbps NGFW, 1.1 Gbps threat protection and 1.3 Gbps SSL inspection throughput.

The embedded Telit Cinterion FN990A28-HP modem covers a wide range of 5G bands, including n2, n5, n12, n14, n25, n41, n66, n71, n77 and n78, with Power Class 1.5 support on n41, n77, n78 and n79, plus extensive LTE and UMTS/HSPA+ coverage. It is PTCRB, AT&T and Verizon certified and FirstNet capable, with T-Mobile certification targeted for Q4 2026. Two nano SIM slots run in active/passive mode, and five SMA ports connect external WWAN antennas for strong reception.

Wired connectivity includes five hardware-accelerated GE RJ45 ports: one WAN, three internal and one FortiLink port by default, plus USB and RJ45 console ports. Hardware security features include a Trusted Platform Module, Bluetooth Low Energy and a signed firmware hardware switch. The unit supports up to 720,000 concurrent TCP sessions, 85,000 new sessions per second, 200 gateway-to-gateway and 250 client-to-gateway IPsec VPN tunnels at up to 4.5 Gbps, and control of up to 8 FortiSwitches and 16 FortiAPs.

The fanless 0 dBA chassis measures 1.6 x 8.5 x 6.3 inches, weighs 2.2 lbs, draws just 8.3 W on average and operates at altitudes up to 10,000 ft. Fortinet's datasheet and QuickStart Guide cover setup and deployment.
