Overview

The Fortinet FortiGate 50G-5G (FG-50G-5G-BDL-950-36) is a fanless desktop next-generation firewall with an embedded dual-SIM 5G modem, SD-WAN and a network controller. It is built for branch and distributed sites that need a secure cellular WAN link. This bundle pairs the hardware with a 3-year FortiCare Premium and FortiGuard Unified Threat Protection (UTP) term, covering IPS, anti-malware, URL/DNS/video filtering and anti-spam for 36 months.

The FortiGate 50G-5G brings firewalling, SD-WAN, network control and 5G connectivity together in one desktop appliance for branch offices, retail locations and other distributed sites. It runs FortiOS on Fortinet's patented SD-WAN ASIC, and SD-WAN and network controller functions are included at no extra cost. This SKU, FG-50G-5G-BDL-950-36, includes 36 months of FortiCare Premium and FortiGuard Unified Threat Protection, which puts security services and support on a single multi-year term.

Cellular connectivity comes from an embedded Telit Cinterion FN990A28-HP modem. It covers 5G NR bands including n41, n71, n77 and n78, and LTE bands including B2, B4, B12, B13, B14, B66 and B71. Two nano-SIM slots work in active/passive mode, and five SMA ports connect external WWAN antennas. The modem is PTCRB, AT&T and Verizon certified and FirstNet capable, with T-Mobile certification targeted for Q4 2026. For wired connections there are five GE RJ45 ports (one WAN, three internal and one default FortiLink), along with USB and RJ45 console ports. The unit also includes a TPM, Bluetooth Low Energy and a signed firmware hardware switch.

Fortinet rates the appliance at up to 1.1 Gbps threat protection, 1.25 Gbps NGFW and 2.25 Gbps IPS on an enterprise traffic mix. It also delivers 4.5 Gbps IPsec VPN and 1.3 Gbps SSL inspection, and supports 720,000 concurrent TCP sessions. It can manage up to 8 FortiSwitches and 16 FortiAPs, and it supports active-active, active-passive and clustering high availability.

The chassis is fanless and silent, weighs 2.2 lbs and measures 1.6 x 8.5 x 6.3 inches. It draws 8.3 W on average from an external 12 VDC adapter. Fortinet's data sheet and QuickStart Guide cover the 50G-5G.
