Overview

The Cradlepoint R2105 (MB01-2105-5GB-GA) is an exterior-mounted 5G router for vehicle roofs and IoT cabinets. One sealed, IP67 and IK09-rated housing holds the 5G NR/Cat 20 LTE modem, four internal cellular antennas and Wi-Fi 6 router. A single 2.5 GbE cable connects it to the network, and it can draw 802.3at PoE power. This All Regions package includes a 1-year NetCloud Mobile Performance Essentials plan. The SIM and AC power supply are not included.

The Ericsson Cradlepoint R2105 is part of the R2100 Series of 5G ruggedized routers, built for vehicle and IoT deployments. Rather than running coax from roof antennas to a router inside the cab, the R2105 puts the modem, antennas and router in one aerodynamic housing. It mounts on the roof of a vehicle or on an IoT cabinet enclosure. That design gives mass transit, public safety and field organizations strong reception with no cable signal loss and a simpler install.

The embedded modem supports 5G NR FR1 in NSA and SA modes plus Cat 20 LTE Advanced Pro, with 4x4 MIMO, dual 4FF SIM slots and peak rates up to 4.14 Gbps down and 660 Mbps up. It carries AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon certifications, plus FirstNet Trusted, T-Mobile Connecting Heroes and Verizon Frontline Verified public safety certifications. Dual-band 2x2 Wi-Fi 6 serves around 100 typical clients. A 380 mm flat, shielded 2.5 GbE cable carries data, and the router takes power from 9–36 VDC with ignition sensing or from 802.3at PoE. Passive GNSS supports Automatic Vehicle Location, and a quad-core ARMv8 CPU runs Docker containers.

The R2105 can work as a self-contained 5G router. It can also act as a captive 5G modem for a supported Cradlepoint router, where NetCloud manages both as one device without a separate license. The housing is rated IP67 and IK09, resists salt mist corrosion, and meets MIL-STD-810G, E-Mark and SAE J1455 Category 2. The included 1-year Essentials plan provides NetCloud Manager, software updates, 24x7 support and the limited lifetime warranty while active. In the European Union, 5 GHz Wi-Fi is limited to client mode.

Questions buyers ask

Does the R2105 need external antennas?

No. It has four internal cellular antennas, and passive GNSS shares those antennas. You mount the unit on the vehicle roof or on a cabinet, with no coax cable runs.

How is it powered?

You can use 9–36 VDC through its 380 mm DC cable with a 4-pin Molex micro-fit connector and ignition sensing, or power it over Ethernet as an 802.3at Class 4 device (30 W). An AC power supply and SIM card are not included.

Can it add 5G to an existing Cradlepoint router?

Yes. With supported Cradlepoint controlling routers, the R2105 can act as a captive modem. NetCloud Manager treats it as an internal modem, so both are managed as one device without a separate license.

Is the Wi-Fi usable worldwide?
