Overview

The Cradlepoint R2105 combines a 5G NR and Cat 20 LTE modem, internal antennas, Wi-Fi 6 and a router in one ruggedized housing. It is built to mount on a vehicle roof or an IoT cabinet. This TAA-compliant U.S. Federal Government SKU (TAA-MB03-2105-5GB-GA) includes a 3-year NetCloud Mobile Performance Essentials plan. The unit can run as a standalone 5G router or add 5G to an existing Cradlepoint router as a captive modem. It is powered by PoE or 9–36 VDC and needs no coax runs.

The Ericsson Cradlepoint R2105 is the Wi-Fi 6 model of the R2100 5G ruggedized router series. It is designed for mass transit, public safety and IoT deployments, where mounting the modem and antennas outside the vehicle or enclosure gives the best reception with no cable signal loss. The modem, four internal cellular antennas and router sit in a single aerodynamic polycarbonate housing. The housing is rated IP67, IK09 impact protected, and tested for salt mist corrosion. Part number TAA-MB03-2105-5GB-GA is the TAA-compliant option for the United States Federal Government. It bundles the hardware with a 3-year NetCloud Mobile Performance Essentials plan covering NetCloud Manager, software updates and 24x7 support. A SIM card and AC power supply are not included.

The embedded modem supports 5G NR FR1 in NSA and SA modes and LTE Advanced Pro Cat 20, with peak rates up to 4.14 Gbps down and 660 Mbps up. It has 4x4 MIMO and dual 4FF SIM slots. The modem is certified for AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon, plus FirstNet Trusted, T-Mobile Connecting Heroes and Verizon Frontline Verified. CBRS Band 48 private networks are also supported.

Installation uses one short cable run. The single 2.5 GbE LAN port connects through a non-removable 380 mm shielded flat cable. The unit can be powered by 802.3at PoE or by 9–36 VDC with ignition sensing. Dual-concurrent 2x2 MU-MIMO Wi-Fi 6 serves clients directly. Paired with a supported Cradlepoint controlling router, the R2105 can act as a captive 5G modem managed as a single entity, with no separate license. On select routers it can also serve as an extra Wi-Fi source for uses such as video offload. Passive GNSS supports AVL integration.

NetCloud Advanced adds coverage maps and location history. A quad-core ARMv8 CPU runs Docker containers at the edge. The R2100 data sheet is available.

Questions buyers ask

Does the R2105 need external antennas?

No. Four cellular antennas are built into the housing, and passive GNSS shares those internal antennas. The unit is designed to mount on a vehicle roof or IoT cabinet for the best reception with no coax signal loss.

How is the R2105 powered?

It is powered either by 802.3at PoE (Type 2, 30 W) or by 9–36 VDC through a 380 mm non-removable cable with a 4-pin Molex micro-fit connector. DC installations use a 3 A fuse up to 24 VDC or a 2.5 A fuse above that. An AC power supply is not included.

Can it work with my existing Cradlepoint router?

Yes. With supported Cradlepoint controlling routers, the R2105 can run as a captive 5G modem. NetCloud Manager then manages both units as a single entity and treats the R2105 as an internal modem, so no separate license is needed.

Is a SIM card included?

No. The R2105 has dual 4FF SIM slots, and a SIM card is not included with this SKU.

What does the 3-year Essentials plan cover?

It covers NetCloud Manager management, software and firmware updates, and 24x7 support for the full term, plus access to Enterprise Wireless University. The hardware carries a limited lifetime warranty while an active plan is in place. NetCloud Advanced can be added later for features such as coverage maps.
