Overview

The Cradlepoint R2105 is an exterior-mounted 5G ruggedized router for vehicles and IoT enclosures. It combines a 5G NR / Cat 20 LTE modem, four internal cellular antennas and dual-band Wi-Fi 6 in one IP67, IK09 housing. This TAA-compliant SKU for U.S. Federal Government ordering includes a 1-year Ericsson NetCloud Mobile Performance Essentials plan with cloud management, 24x7 support and software updates. The R2105 runs from 9–36 VDC vehicle power or 802.3at PoE, so the install needs no coax cables.

The Ericsson Cradlepoint R2105 is the Wi-Fi 6 model of the R2100 Series 5G ruggedized router. It is designed to mount on a vehicle roof or attach to an IoT cabinet enclosure, and it suits mass transit, public safety and other fleet operators. The modem, antennas and router share one aerodynamic polycarbonate housing rated IP67 and IK09. This removes antenna coax runs and keeps signal loss to a minimum. This part number (TAA-MB01-2105-5GB-GA) is the TAA-compliant U.S. Federal Government ordering option and bundles the router with a 1-year NetCloud Mobile Performance Essentials plan.

The embedded 5G NR FR1 (NSA/SA) and LTE Advanced Pro Category 20 modem supports 4x4 MIMO, dual 4FF SIM slots and peak rates of up to 4.14 Gbps downlink and 660 Mbps uplink. The modem also supports CBRS Band 48 for private cellular networks. It carries AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon network operator certifications, and it is FirstNet Trusted, T-Mobile Connecting Heroes and Verizon Frontline Verified for public safety use. Dual-radio, dual-band 2x2 MU-MIMO Wi-Fi 6 serves onboard clients, and a single 2.5 GbE LAN port connects to in-vehicle equipment.

You can deploy the R2105 as a self-contained router, or add 5G to an existing installation by running it as a captive modem with supported Cradlepoint controlling routers. In captive mode, NetCloud Manager treats the R2105 as an internal modem, so it needs no separate license. With select controlling routers it can also act as an extra Wi-Fi source for uses such as video offload. Passive GNSS feeds Automatic Vehicle Location systems. Ignition sensing handles automatic power-on and time-delayed shutdown.

The Essentials plan covers NetCloud Manager cloud management, software and firmware updates, 24x7 support and access to Enterprise Wireless University for the full term.
